Navarra Shared Space

Category: Civil Engineering Location: Navarra Place Shared Space Client: Belfast City Council Value Range: <500k

Project Details:

The Navarra Place required the construction of a new Multi-Use Games Area and playground located at Serpentine Road / White City, Belfast.

Works also included removal of existing Peace wall and playground, drainage, new floodlighting, perimeter & ball stop fencing, provision of new playground and landscaping.

Due to the sensitive nature surrounding the removal of the peace wall, cross community consultation was required with removal carried out once the bulk of works were completed.  Removal works involved the use of a boom lift and excavator on the Serpentine Road under traffic management to ensure the safe dismantling of the tin sheeted wall and steel mesh located above.

Play equipment was provided by a number of different suppliers to cater for all ages.  In addition football nets and basketball hoops were provided within the MUGA pitch.

Landscaping consisted of the installation of a number of species of trees, as well as topsoiling and sowing throughout site.

On the 19th September 2019 during Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Week, an official opening event was carried out, with speeches involving local politicians, as well as those from the Department of Justice and International Fund for Ireland.
